Montpelier, Vermont has (1) current opening for a Water Treatment Plant Operator within Public Works. The person filling this position will work under the direction of the Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator. An Operator at the Water Treatment Plant and facilities is responsible for ensuring that the plant is running as efficiently and effectively as possible. Complete and accurate record keeping is imperative. Good communication with the Chief Operator and team is a must to be sure that these are kept correctly. Operates and maintains pumps, motors, auxiliary engines, etc., involving a close assessment of all levels, temperatures, outputs, pressures, and proper operations of equipment. Measures and records readings as to gallons pumped and static levels. Assist in making emergency repairs to pumps, motors, valves, and other essential equipment. Performs related work as required. Performs routine inside and outside facilities maintenance including snow removal, lawn maintenance along with general building and grounds maintenance.
Work includes daily and weekend laboratory duties, water source protection area inspections, land posting, pump station operations and maintenance and air and vacuum station maintenance and troubleshooting. The applicant will be required to assume on-call status following a probationary period including weekend duties.
The successful candidate will, at a minimum, have the following qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. The ability to learn, understand and retain laboratory testing for the purposes of water plant control and operations. Must have or pass test for a State of Vermont water certification license within 6 months. Candidate must pass pre-employment physical and drug testing and maintain a valid VT driver’s license.

The City of Montpelier offers a comprehensive benefit package. The range of compensation for the position is $24.27 to $26.79 per hour dependent on experience, qualifications, water license status and an interview inclusive of meeting the requirements of a proficiency matrix.
