This class provides wastewater personnel with a guide to the pathogens that are found in wastewater, bio-aerosols, and biosolids. We will pathogen groups including viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and helminths. Learn where pathogens are most concentrated in wastewater facilities, the possible fate of pathogens (i.e., removed, consumed by higher life forms, inactivated, destroyed), and how pathogens could be transferred (transmitted) to facility personnel. Review disinfectants, indicator organisms, and immunobiologicals. The class is accompanied by handouts that provide the following information: 1) glossary, 2) hygiene measures and practices, 3) personal protective equipment (PPE) and training, and 4) additional information or references.
