Biological Nutrient Removal
March 21–22, 2023
9 am – 12:30 pm each day
This course provides an in-depth review of the bacterial and operational conditions that are involved in the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from the activated sludge process. We will examine both nitrification and denitrification, their various forms, troubleshooting these conditions, and operational measures to promote nitrification or denitrification. In addition we will look at biological phosphorus release in an anaerobic/ fermentative zone and biological phosphorus uptake in an aerobic/oxic zone by poly-P bacteria, as well as operational conditions to promote biological phosphorus removal.
