Nearly 200 years ago, humans discovered that water can become contaminated and make people sick. The sand filter was the earliest known method of removing contaminants from drinking water. In the early 1900s, water filtration treatment plants and sodium hypochlorite disinfection began being used in the United States. This class looks at drinking water treatment innovations throughout time.
