Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III – Middlebury

This position involves the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant facility and collection system. Work involves monitoring equipment for proper operation and for making operating adjustments. Work also involves performing preventive maintenance, mechanical repairs, and electrical repairs. Work may also extend to performing laboratory analysis necessary to regulate plant operations. In the absence of the Wastewater Superintendent, this position also involves assumption of Wastewater Superintendent duties and responsibilities as directed and assigned. Works directly under supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent.

Work is performed in accordance with established routines, with employees making some field decisions where the decision follows established precedent. Work requires knowledge that can be readily learned on the job. The work of this class involves some actions, the consequences of which improperly performed would cause problems of a safety and economic nature. This work is a lead position where assignment of tasks may periodically be given to other workers. Work does involve some element of personal risk and unpleasant work surroundings.

Certification by the State of Vermont as a Grade III DM operating certificate issued by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation must be achieved within 12 months of hire. It is anticipated that this position will be filled in April 2024.
