The Vergennes Panton Water District is seeking an individual for the full-time position of Water System Operator.
Job Description:
This position requires the ability to operate the water treatment facility, read water meters and maintain and repair the transmission and distribution system. Must be willing to work on a rotating on-call basis.
Employee is expected to be able to operate all equipment relating to the water treatment facility and perform necessary routine and preventive maintenance as required. This includes the water filtration equipment, water pumps, water valves, pneumatic actuators, chemical feed equipment, SCADA system and in-line analyzers. Must also have a working knowledge of computers and computer software programs.
The employee shall read water meters on a quarterly and monthly basis and be able to repair broken meters or install new meters when required. Some plumbing knowledge helpful.
Employee must be able to maintain and repair the distribution system. This includes repairing water main breaks, finding water leaks, locating water pipes, repairing curb stops, repairing valves and repairing fire hydrants. Road repair or turf repair will need to be done after any digging occurs.
Employee shall:
Obtain a class 4C State of Vermont Operator’s Certificate and will participate in training sessions to pass the 4C operator’s exam within (24) months of employment. This time could be extended if approved.
Be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, squat, sit, stand, climb ladders and walk.
Have the ability to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
Have a valid State of Vermont Driver’s License, with the ability to meet the insurability criteria of the district’s insurance carrier
