Job Summary: Performs technical work involving the operation and maintenance of a water and wastewater treatment plants and highway department. Performs repairs and routine maintenance on water and sewer distribution system, fire hydrants, and meters. Performs repairs and routine maintenance on wastewater collection and septage receiving station. Assists in the general maintenance of town facilities and grounds such as snow removal, mowing and trimming, and building maintenance. Weekend coverage of the facilities is a requirement and will be done on a rotating basis. Response to emergencies outside of normal working hours will be required. Would involve summer road maintenance as needed by the highway department. On call for snow plowing of town roads and parking lots during winter months.
Skills Required: Knowledge of basic math and chemistry. Knowledge of basic mechanics, plumbing, and electronics. Ability to record data accurately. Ability to perform routine laboratory tests and analysis. Ability to perform minor maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments, employees, other agencies, and general public.
Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent and at least one year of related experience and/or training in water/wastewater treatment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Vermont Water Operations Certifications Class 3 and D, Wastewater Treatment License Grade 1. Equipment and plowing experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with Water Distribution experience but willing to train the right candidate.
