Water Audits and Leak Detection
Description
This class provides a practical introduction to water loss auditing and leak detection for water distribution systems. Participants will learn which tools to use for calculating non-revenue water losses, including the AWWA Free Water Audit Software, to calculate non-revenue water and assess system performance.
Next, participants will learn about the tools used for leak detection such as acoustic microphones, leak correlators, and acoustic loggers. The course explains acoustic theory, sound propagation, and the effects of pipe material and water pressure on leak noise. Participants will learn how to apply field techniques in performing a comprehensive leak detection survey by pressure logging, sounding at valves and hydrants, and line isolation to locate underground and indoor leaks.
