Water Treatment: Chlorination

Description
Both continuous chlorination and shock chlorination are integral parts of water treatment. Water systems operators should understand both of these concepts to ensure that public health is protected. This class will cover the following topics:

  • Chlorine chemistry
  • Breakpoint chlorination and how to achieve it
  • Sodium hypochlorite feed equipment and how to avoid feed pump malfunctions
  • Contamination events that warrant shock chlorination
  • Proper shock chlorination procedures
  • Shock chlorination of water storage tanks and distribution piping
  • Proper dechlorination methods and equipment
