Apprenticeship Program

Vermont Rural Water’s apprenticeship program is designed to train new hires at drinking water and wastewater facilities across the state. Apprentices will learn system operations through on-the-job training and prepare for certification exams through classroom education and self-study.

Hire an Apprentice

This is a great way to hire and train new employees, especially for systems who have employees retiring soon. We offer six apprenticeship tracks (click each for a PDF more information):

Water Treatment (2 year program – registered)

Water Distribution (2 year program – registered)

Wastewater Treatment (2 year program – registered)

Water & Wastewater Treatment (3 year program – registered)

Small Water System (1 year program – flexible)

Small Wastewater System (1 year program – flexible)

Become an Apprentice

Qualified candidates should apply directly with the employer for apprenticeship positions. Apprentices must be at least 18 years old and have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Apprenticeships that are registered with the Vermont Department of Labor are two-year, full-time positions, during which apprentices will be paid a salary. Apprentices will receive 288 hours of classroom instruction and 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.
