Water Supply Rule Revisions

The Vermont Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division (DWGPD) has posted draft revisions to the Water Supply Rule. The proposed revisions remove Vermont’s previous PFAS regulations and replace them with EPA’s new federal PFAS regulations, and make other changes. View the draft rule here. The PFAS regulations start on page 42 and the new contaminant standards are on page 51. Changes relating to PFAS treatment are on page 165–168.

DWGPD will be holding two public meetings about the proposed revisions: January 8 at 5 pm (hybrid, in Montpelier and on Microsoft Teams) and January 9 at 11 am (virtual on Microsoft Teams). Find more details and meeting links on the Secretary of State’s website under “Vermont Water Supply Rule” (click on the  green “View” button on the right).

You can email written comments to Ben Montross at ben.montross@vermont.gov. DWGPD is especially interested in receiving input about whether to apply PFAS data from previous sampling towards the new federal regulations. The deadline to submit comments is January 16, 2025.

Renewal Reminder

Water Operators: Class 3 and D certifications must be renewed by June 30, 2025. You will need 20 training credit hours (TCHs). Please note that the renewal process for water operators will be different in 2025. DWGPD will be providing more details in the coming months. In the meantime, we encourage all operators to save their certificates from training classes and track their TCHs.

Wastewater Operators: Wastewater licenses must be renewed by July 31, 2025. You will need 8–16 training credit hours (TCHs), depending on your license level.
