Emergency Response, Planning, and Tools

  • July 29, 2020
    9:00 am - 12:30 pm

This course will examine how water and wastewater systems can prevent and respond to emergencies that occur in Vermont. We will discuss how to deal with emergencies such as pandemics, severe weather events, and other emergent issues. You will learn the steps to take during an emergency: recognizing status changes, identifying the type of emergency (including severity), activating your emergency response plan, mobilizing equipment and staff, communicating both internally and externally, protecting health and safety, and returning to normal operations. Finally, we will look at tools that can be used to prepare for and respond to emergency situations.
