SUMMARY:Operation and Maintenance of Distribution Systems
DESCRIPTION:Description\nWater distribution systems and storage tanks are the most vulnerable part of a water system for contamination. This class will take a look at contamination vulnerabilities in a water distribution system. Attendees will learn basic hydraulics\, contamination pathways\, cross connection control\, and operation and maintenance of water storage tanks. The maintenance activities we will discuss include proactive leak detection\, distribution system flushing\, and water quality sampling. \nCredit\n3 TCH (Water) \nInstructor\nPaula Jackson (Vermont Rural Water Association)

SUMMARY:Financial Modeling
DESCRIPTION:Description\nLong-term financial planning is an important part of sustainability for water and wastewater systems. A financial model is essential for appropriately setting rates\, building reserves\, and keeping up with long-term capital needs. This training will provide attendees with a basic model for financial forecasting as well as tips and tricks for using Excel. \nCredit\n2 TCH (Water & Wastewater) \nWebinar\nThe Zoom link will be emailed to you the day before class. Please join the Zoom meeting at least 10 minutes before class starts. SUMMARY:Safety: Bloodborne Pathogens\, PPE\, and Ladder Safety
DESCRIPTION:Description\nThis class will cover several safety considerations for water and wastewater personnel. First\, we will look at bloodborne pathogen threats in the water resources industry as well as new and improved personal protective equipment (PPE). Falls are the second highest cause of workplace fatality across the nation\, so we will discuss ladder safety at home and in the workplace. \nCredit\n3 TCH (Water & Wastewater) \nInstructor\nPaula Jackson (Vermont Rural Water Association)

SUMMARY:OSHA: Environmental Awareness and Workplace Violence
DESCRIPTION:Description\nWorkplace violence is any act or threat of physical violence that occurs at the work site. It ranges from harassment and verbal abuse to physical assaults and even homicide. There is a potential for workplace violence at treatment plants and when water and wastewater workers are in the field. For example\, shutting off customers’ water has provoked gun violence against workers. \nIn the world we live in\, environmental awareness is a must. This class will teach how to be more aware of potential threats. We will discuss administrative steps you can take to protect employees such as having a workplace shooter plan and written safety procedures for field work. Training your team to be more aware of the environment may save their lives. \nCredit\n3 TCH (Water & Wastewater) \nInstructor\nPaula Jackson (Vermont Rural Water Association)
